Hatha I

This class is taught by:

Eric Spooner (sub)

Eric recently completed his 200-hour yoga teacher training at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in Stockbridge, Mass. He found yoga (or, rather, yoga found him) a few years ago and he has been hooked ever since. After making several visits to Stockbridge for weekend programs, Kripalu became an obvious choice when he decided to take the plunge into yoga teaching. He believes passionately in the power of Kripalu Yoga to connect mind and body, and inspire open-heartedness and self-discovery. A DC-area resident since 1994 (with a detour to Charlottesville from 2009-15), Eric lives in Chevy Chase, MD with his wife, two teenage sons, and dog Milo. He has found that practicing yoga off the mat has been very valuable while raising teenagers!

Dena Kahn

Dena is trained in Kripalu Yoga, completing her 200 hour and a portion of her 500 hour trainings at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health under the guidance of Priti Robyn Ross, Devarshi Steven Hartman, Sudha Carolyn Lundeen, and other expert Kripalu teachers. In addition, Dena is certified in Curvy Yoga through Anna Guest Jelley. Although currently focused on adults, Dena spent several years teaching teens and elementary school children yoga and meditation. She continues to learn through extended workshops and trainings from her Kripalu teachers and others. Dena has been practicing yoga for over 10 years and teaching for 6 years. She teaches slower paced classes that focus on breath awareness, building strength, and increasing stability and mobility. Her teaching is guided by the beliefs that yoga connects you with your own innate wisdom, provides exceptional practices for living a full and happy life, and is accessible for every kind of body. Dena's classes are both inviting for new students and satisfying for experienced practitioners. Dena lives a short-walk from the studio with her husband, twin daughters, dog, and cats.

Geneva Moss

At the age of twenty, Geneva's first teacher impressed upon her the long term benefits of yoga as choices to increase health and well being. Through the following years her practice has come to embrace the richness of the totality of yoga as her dharma. The wisdom and practice of yoga resonate with Geneva to the core of her being. She commits herself and her teaching to the study and exploration of the self through the practice of Tantra Hatha Yoga. Geneva began teaching yoga internationally in 2005, and is a certified ParaYoga teacher and registered 500-hour Yoga Alliance teacher. Her classes create the opportunity to explore balance and stability within the fire of effort. Geneva's students experience a personal, committed and connected practice with intelligent sequencing, curiousity and the balance of humor and depth. Geneva's goal in teaching is to help her students be empowered and connect mind, body and energy and bring awareness to their own inner teacher. She continues to study extensively with her teachers Yogarupa Rod Stryker and Pandit Rajmani Tigunait. Geneva writes, travels, and offers the light and wisdom of yoga and meditation both in private and public classes, workshops, festivals, and retreats. Prior to teaching yoga, Geneva was a successful technology consultant and business development specialist and manager. Geneva resides in the DC Metro area with her family.

This class is geared to beginners seeking an introduction to yoga and experienced practitioners who want to deepen their practice by re-visiting the fundamentals of yoga. The class will introduce students to basic yoga poses (asanas), proper alignment, and movement with the breath. Participants will gain increased strength, flexibility, and balance, as well as relief from stress, aches, pains and stiffness we acquire in everyday life and from athletic activity. This class is a great way to build a foundation that will support progress towards more advanced practices and intermediate level classes.

This is not a Hot Yoga class.  The temperature in the studio will be maintained at a comfortable level.
