Denese has been an avid cyclist and NYC marathon runner for many years. Finding yoga as she puts it was the most profound gift she has ever received, and because of that she enjoys teaching and sharing the joys of yoga with her students / friends. She has practiced traditional yoga methods from Sri T. Krishnamacharya and Guruji Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. It’s Denese’s beloved relationship with her Ashtanga practice that gives her the innate power to create yoga communities wherever she teaches. She is able to simplify the roots of the yoga practice. Denese has led workshops and retreats in NYC, Italy, and Goa, India. She engages in philanthropic causes such as, using the power of yoga to inspire fundraising efforts for vulnerable children with her annual 108 Sun Salute Challenge. She was a Yoga Alliance Delegate for the Washington, DC area 2011-2012. Her yoga styles include Mysore Ashtanga, Ashtanga Primary Series, Iyengar, Vinyasa, Prenatal, Restorative, Seniors and Kids Yoga.Her foundational yoga education includes: Vinyasa Yoga Certified and Registered with Yoga Alliance E-RYT500, Yoga Kids Training, Yoga Anatomy Training with Leslie Kaminoff and Prenatal Yoga Training.In addition to being a Yoga Therapist, she is the creator and founder of Mala Flow®, and creator and founder of iPATH® (Integral Postural Alignment Therapy).

  • Mala Flow All Levels
  • All levels are encouraged to experience the enlightenment of Mala Flow vinyasa yoga, and those who have practiced traditional vinyasa yoga will be empowered to deepen their practice.

    Mala Flow is less of a “call and response" practice and more of a devotional layered flow that will remove blocks and let in more light, making your practice truly your own. The journey begins with a mantra using mala beads. After warming the body with the A, B C’s of Surya Namaskar- the stacking practice begins (various asanas, hand balances and back bends) strung together by mind body awareness, much like mala beads, each bead represents an asana, and your body is the thread that supports the garland. The breath is at the forefront of the practice and students learn to let go and drive forward creating a pathway of self-enlightenment and transformation. This dynamic practice will fill you with concentration – (dharana) and layer after layer you drop into full release. Closing practice concludes with a mala closing prayer or kirtan, and Om is shared.

    The studio temperature is kept at a comfortable level.

  • Beginners' Yoga
  • Yoga is for every BODY! Join WYC, celebrate what it is like to take the first step on the mat-path to a journey with yoga.
    We all know how yoga builds strength, flexibility, balance, focus and inner peace. The 5 classes lay the foundation for a yoga practice that will serve you a lifetime. Learn basic yoga in an intimate, safe, and community oriented environment where mistakes are considered a path to learning.

    This series is perfect for absolute beginners AND anyone looking to strengthen the foundation of their existing yoga practice. Classes will be taught in a semi-private setting (limited to 25 students) to ensure everyone gets lots of personal attention.

    The full series will prepare beginners to step confidently into any Level I yoga class and feel comfortable. Alignment, cueing, FAQ’s along with sequencing, will be mastered.
    Denese Cavanaugh ERYT500, a teacher with name recognition, will share her vast knowledge to help every student grow on and off the mat.

    Week 1: WYC opening poses and alignment- map your body
    Week 2: Standing & balancing poses, basic sequencing with breath
    Week 3: Seated poses & twists sequencing
    Week 4: Intro to inversions & backbends, closing poses
    Week 5: WYC asana development (putting it all together)
