Michael first experienced meditation without knowing it while playing the drums as a teenager, completely absorbed in the moment. Years later, while living in New York City, Michael was dragged into his first yoga class against his will. His perspective shifted, though, during this first class and he realized he had found a home. It was the first time he had experienced quiet in the midst of the hectic, whirling, New York City environment. Michael believes that this sense of calm is our natural state and the practices of yoga can and do take us there.
Michael is a Professional Level 500-hr Kripalu Yoga Teacher. He received his 200-hr teaching certification from Yoga to the People in NYC and is a Registered Yoga Teacher under Yoga Alliance. Michael teaches private clients, group classes, teacher trainings and workshops across the DC Metro Area. He holds a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from Boston University and has studied dance, the Alexander Technique, and is certified in Reiki Level 1. He draws on his experience in this range of modalities, particularly the Alexander Technique, to broaden and deepen the yoga experience for his students.
Michael Peterson instructs the following:
Meditation in Motion
This Kripalu Yoga class includes breathing techniques, flowing movements to warm the body and energize the system, held postures to challenge the mind and body, and relaxation to allow all the levels of being to restore and integrate. Everything is done through the lens of non-judgmental, compassionate self-awareness which allows the practice to become a moving meditation.
This class is intended for all levels.
